What is the WELLTH Fund
If you are a LA Health member, you and your family have access to the WELLTH Fund.
From 2024 and an LA Health members, you and your registered dependants have access to a once-off, additional risk benefit called the WELLTH Fund, offering up to R10 000 per family, to empower you to understand and address your personal healthcare needs. This benefit is available to you over a two year period, in 2024 and to the end of 2025.
What does the WELLTH Fund cover?
The WELLTH Fund covers a comprehensive list of healthcare services ensuring that you are empowered to take specific action according to your individual health needs. This benefit is separate from, and additional to, the Screening and Preventative Care Benefit.
This benefit can be used for appropriate healthcare services up to your WELLTH Fund limit. Cover is subject to the Scheme's clinical entry criteria; treatment guidelines and protocols and qualifying healthcare services are covered up to a maximum of the Scheme Rate.
How we calculate your WELLTH Fund amount
The WELLTH Fund is a once-per-lifetime benefit available to every beneficiary on the membership. The value of the benefit depends on the size and make-up of your membership.
R2 500 per adult
(>18 years old)
R1 250 per child
(> 2 years old )
Up to a maximum of R10 000 per membership
The WELLTH Fund is allocated per membership, and therefore once it is activated, any beneficiary on the membership can make use of any portion of the benefit, subject to the qualifying criteria below.
A screening assessment is all it takes to unlock your WELLTH Fund
The WELLTH Fund is automatically activated once all the registered beneficiaries on the membership, who are 2 years and older, have completed a screening assessment. All screening assessments completed since 1 January 2023 count towards unlocking the WELLTH Fund.
Remember, an annual screening assessment is covered in full by the Scheme from the Screening and Preventative Care Benefit. You must go to one of the Scheme's Network providers for these tests.
Children complete a Kids Screening Assessment, which includes a Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement, blood pressure measurement, as well as a health behaviour and developmental questionnaire.
What is a Screening Assessment?
A screening assessment is a simple but helpful set of basic health screenings and preventive tests, which you are covered for every year. These include:
Blood pressure testing
Blood sugar testing
Cholesterol or lipogram testing
Weight or body mass index (BMI) assessments
Non-smokers declaration (NSD)

Yes, the WELLTH Fund covers the following specific medical devices if they have a registered NAPPI code and are bought from a registered healthcare provider with a valid practice number (such as a pharmacy or doctor):
- Blood pressure monitors
- Glucometers
- Cholesterol monitors
- Peak flow meters
- Spirometers
If you are registered on the LA KeyPlus Option, you must go to your allocated Network GP and dentists and optometrists in the KeyCare Network. Members on the LA Focus option will need to use a network dentist.
The available dental and optical benefits will first be used before claims will pay from the WELLTH Fund.
No, you cannot claim any medication from the WELLTH Fund.
- You or some of the dependants, who are older than 2 years, and who are registered on your membership, have not completed a screening assessment in the last 12 months, or
- Your healthcare provider has not yet submitted the results of your screening assessment to us.

Children who will still be younger than two at the time when the benefit expires, will not get a Rand amount allocated. However, you can still use your WELLTH Fund benefits for their screening assessments for them if you wish.
Yes, if your child turns 2 before the expiry date of the WELLTH Fund, they will get he child allocation of R1250 when your WELLTH Fund is activated. Children who will still be younger than 2 at the time when the benefit expires will not get a rand amount allocated. However, you can still use the WELLTH Fund on Screening Assessments for them if you wish.
Yes, new dependants added to a membership can use the WELLTH Fund benefits, but the benefit limit will only increase once the new dependent completes their screening assessment.
If your dependant withdraws from the Scheme during the year, your WELLTH Fund benefits will not decrease.
Children who turn 21 before the expiry date of your WELLTH Fund benefit, will get the adult benefit allocation of R2 500 as soon as the benefit is unlocked.
Please allow up to 24 hours for your WELLTH Fund information to update after you have completed your screening assessment.
Also make sure that:
- All your registered dependants, who are two years and older, have completed their screening assessments within the last 12 months.
If you are outside the borders of South Africa, you can go to a registered healthcare practitioner in that country, who can manually send us your screening assessment results. These results will unlock your WELLTH Fund benefit. Download the Screening Assessment Exception form here for your healthcare practitioner to complete.
The screening assessment Exception form must include the full name and date of birth of the beneficiary undergoing the tests, with the following screening assessment results:
- Blood pressure
- Blood glucose
- Cholesterol or lipogram
- Weight assessment or body mass index (BMI)
The healthcare professional must validate your screening assessment by either signing or stamping the form, and confirming their, or the clinic's details, where relevant. Please send the completed form to healthchecks@discovery.co.za.
If you cannot complete your screening assessment at one of our accredited healthcare providers, you can go to a registered healthcare practitioner who can manually send us the results. These results will unlock your WELLTH Fund benefit. Download the Screening Assessment Exception form here for your healthcare practitioner to complete.
